The WSET Level 1 Foundation Certificate in Wines

The Foundation Certificate is an entry level qualification providing a straightforward introduction to wine. It is ideal for boosting the confidence of new or inexperienced front line staff in the hospitality and retail sectors.

Overview There are currently 2 strands to this qualification: Hospitality and Retail. Qualification objective: Provide the basic product knowledge and skills in the service and sale of wine. Who it is aimed at The Level 1 Foundation Certificate in Wines (Hospitality): Candidates with their first job in hospitality. (Please note only the hospitality strand is taught at the London Wine and Spirit Centre) The Level 1 Foundation Certificate in Wines (Retail): Candidates with their first job in retailing.

Entry Requirements
Students and candidates who are under the legal minimum age for the retail purchase of alcoholic beverages in the country where the examination is being held will NOT be allowed to sample any alcoholic beverages as part of their course, but this is NOT a barrier for successfully completing the qualification.

• a multiple choice paper of 30 questions
• a food and wine matching exercise
• a portfolio of tasting notes
