Eight day wine festival

2018 will be the 40th annual Vancouver International Wine Festival. Although the festival includes events at over 25 venues around the city, it centres around the International Festival Tastings at the Vancouver Convention Centre where Rachel Brown DipWSET will be on hand at the WSET booth to answer all your WSET questions.

In addition, our local course providers will be running masterclasses on Wednesday 28 February, bringing expert insights into classic wine producing regions, more details below. We hope to see you there!


Unravelling Portugal

Portugal has an incredible diversity of more than 200 indigenous grape varieties – and just about as many synonyms as you move from region to region! This seminar will help you differentiate your Alvarinhos from your Arintos, and examine the Tintas and Tourigas that make the wines of Portugal so unique. Presented by David Munro DipWSET, Fine Vintage Ltd

Rioja Renaissance

The region of Rioja produces Spain’s most famous wines, and its winemaking traditions have been essential to this rise to fame. Today we’ll take a journey through the complexity of the region, to re-discover the classics but also to explore Rioja’s age of modernity. Presented by Keith Nicholson DipWSET, Statera Wine Academy and Mark Shipway DipWSET, LaSalle College Vancouver

Shades of Sherry

From pale and dry to dark and syrupy, there's a Sherry for every occasion. With wine lovers, restaurants and bartenders rediscovering this amazingly diverse product, we’ll explore the unique conditions of Andalucía, its soil, its grapes, and its legendary soleras that create this wonderful range of wines. Presented by Lara Victoria DipWSET, Cru Classe Hospitality Corp.

WSET Masterclass Presenters

  • David Munro DipWSET
    David has lived in Japan and New Zealand for eight years working in wineries, retailers and fine-dining restaurants. David then returned to Canada in 2005 to pursue his WSET studies and work in the wine trade. He completed the Level 4 Diploma and was accepted into the Masters of Wine programme in 2014. His travels have taken him to almost every wine region, with frequent trips to South America, Australia, South Africa, North America, and a number of European wine regions.
  • Keith Nicholson DipWSET
    Keith completed the WSET Diploma in 2014, is a winner of the VIPWF Sommelier Challenge, a scholarship recipient from Society of Wine Educators and a Sommelier of the Year finalist from the Vancouver International Wine Festival. Keith is a certified Sommelier, who spent the majority of his career in the wine and hospitality business in Vancouver. He has worked on the hospitality side with over twenty-five years within restaurant management and presenting wine programs at some of BC’s top dining establishments such as The Bearfoot Bistro and Le Crocodile.
  • Lara Victoria DipWSET
    Lara Victoria is one of B.C.'s most highly qualified professionals in wine, spirits, sherry and sake. As a WSET Certified Educator, she teaches all levels of WSET certification in Vancouver. Lara is also trained in food technology as a pastry chef.
