Beginner gin tasting

This beginner-level gin tasting is perfect for any South Londoner who wants to discover their local gin history and taste some fantastic examples.

South London is awash with distilling expertise and our school is located a short walk from some of the area's finest gin distilleries. You’ll learn about the history of gin in this area, the basics of gin production, as well as the key botanicals and what defines a 'London Dry' and an 'Old Tom'. Armed with your new knowledge, you'll then learn how to craft a perfect gin & tonic and a classic gin martini.

About Hannah Lanfear

Your tutor for the evening will be our spirits and cocktail expert, Hannah Lanfear.

Hannah is the founder of The Mixing Class, a company dedicated to education and research within the drinks industry. Clocking in at 17 years of service to the cocktail and spirits industry, her journey took her from a teenager pulling pints and pouring rum in a harbour-side tavern in Cornwall, to making fancy drinks for the cognoscenti in some of the world’s elite bars including London’s Milk & Honey, Bungalow 8 and Boisdale.

She’s travelled the world as a global brand ambassador experiencing bar culture the globe over and worked distillery-side, managing the sales, marketing and exports at Jensen’s Gin. Now turning her experience to education, she teaches about spirits at all levels from WSET Level 1 through to the WSET Level 4 Diploma.

In February 2019, Hannah was awarded the coveted Imbibe Educator of the Year award, recognising her exceptional commitment to spirits education.
