Join Rubina Vieira of the IVBAM for this in-depth masterclass on the historic fortified wines from the beautiful Portuguese island of Madeira. Rubina will offer detailed insight into the history, viticulture, viniculture and maturation techniques that define the different styles of Madeira.
Different grapes, styles and qualities will be compared and contrasted against one another - a great opportunity for any WSET Diploma students studying for their Fortified Wines examination, or anyone with an interest in learning more about these fascinating wines.
About Rubina Vieira
Rubina is a Madeira Island local where she was born in 1973.
After graduating in chemistry, she joined the Madeira Wine Institute (IVM) in 2001 and since then her entire professional life has been dedicated to wines, particularly Madeira Wines, for which she has an enormous passion.
From 2001 to 2011 she was the responsible for the chemical quality control of all the wines and spirits certified by IVM. In 2011, she became Head of the Tasting Panel, responsible for the sensorial analysis for wines and spirits under the purview of the now Institute of Wine, Embroidery and Handicraft of Madeira, IP-RAM (IVBAM, IP-RAM).
In 2013 she decided to improve her technical knowledge and joined the Universidade Católica do Porto (UCP) to do her postgraduate degree in oenology. Simultaneously, she kept training and implementing new tasting panels for spirits and other traditional food products of the island.
Currently she is responsible for all the educational actions for Madeira Wines as Madeira Wine Educator. She speaks at lectures, seminars and masterclasses on Madeira Wines at international fairs and events. In the regional market she is also responsible for wine education in local restaurants and hotels and represented IVBAM in the reception and accompaniment of masters of wine, masters sommeliers, journalists, opinion leaders and wine sector professionals when visiting Madeira.
She is also a regular member of the jury of several national and international wine competitions such as the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, the Berlin Wine Trophy, the Asia Wine Trophy, the Portugal Wine Trophy and the Portugal Wine Contest.

Cancellations and transfers
- Cancellations and transfers can be made up to two weeks before the event
- Cancellations within 10 working days are non-refundable and cannot be transferred to another event
- If you need to change a name on the booking, please give us as much notice as possible
- WSET School London reserves the right to cancel an event. If necessary, a full refund or transfer will be offered.
