Advanced wine tasting

The volcanic island of Santorini is one of Greece's most exciting wine regions. With its basket-shaped vines, its vineyards are instantly recognisable, but what else do you know about the vineyards, grapes, people and practices behind Santorini's wines?

In this masterclass, wine ambassador Marios Nektarios Bileris will explain what defines Santorini's unique terroir, current winemaking methods and trends, and will focus in detail on the island's increasingly famous Assyrtiko grape.

About Marios Nektarios Bileris

Marios graduated from the University of Salonica with a degree in agriculture and viticulture. He worked for a Greek winery (in production then in sales) until 2008 when he moved to the UK to further improve his wine knowledge. He worked for companies like Planet of the Grapes and Amathus, then as a fine wine advisor for Lay & Wheeler.

In his role as Santorini wine ambassador and sales supervisor, he travels the world training wine merchants, agents and consumers alike, to further develop their knowledge of Santorini’s exceptional wines.

He is passionate about lesser-known varieties and emerging wine regions. He collect fine wines, but tasting rare varieties and visiting small boutique wineries and quality-driven producers is what keeps him really excited.
