Join Master of Wine Sarah Jane Evans at this tasting exploring the the new Spain, including its varieties, winemaking and people, as she discusses her book, "The Wines of Central and Southern Spain".
Event details
Spain is internationally famous for its classic reds, many of them based on the Tempranillo grape, grown in the north, and aged in oak barrels of 225 litres. But there is more to Spain than just these classic styles. Come and discover some of the real excitement in Spain today, in the Centre, South and Mediterranean, not forgetting the Canaries and the Balearics.
You will be tasting eight wines that Sarah Jane has selected to highlight the breadth and originality across these under-the-radar regions. They will include the red grapes Escursac, Bobal, and Monastrell, and the whites Listán Prieto and Listán Blanco, Merseguera, Verdil and Tortosí, plus a new image of Palomino Fino in Sherry country. Themes in the tasting include wines that have been aged in tinaja (amphora), volcanic vineyards, and mountain vines.
Guests will enjoy some Spanish cheeses from Brindisa alongside the wines, and will take home a copy of Sarah Jane’s new book, The Wines of Central and Southern Spain: From Catalunya to Cadiz.
