Join Bordeaux expert Alex Johnson DipWSET to blind taste Bordeaux icons next to their more humble counterparts. Can you tell the difference?
Event details
The fine wines of Bordeaux are undisputed wine icons, and come with price tags to match. As the region faces unprecedented challenges, there are some incredible bargains to be had within the wines of the smaller châteaux. But can these wines stand up to the power and quality of Bordeaux's showstopper wines? The only way to know is to taste them blind.
Led by Bordeaux expert Alex Johnson DipWSET, you'll taste eight wines blind – all of which are sure to delight, and some may surprise.
Guests will enjoy the wines alongside a selection of French cheese from La Fromagerie.

About the presenter, Alex Johnson DipWSET

Alex Johnson DipWSET is a wine expert based in Northern Ireland. Since 2017 he has worked with leading Irish merchant, wholesaler, and retailer James Nicholson Wine, where he is Fine Wine Manager and contributes across both the buying and retail teams. James Nicholson Wine has been awarded the International Wine Challenge ‘Regional Merchant of the Year - Northern Ireland’ more than thirty times and, in 2024, was named ‘Single Site Retailer of the Year – UK’.
He graduated from the WSET Diploma in 2023, receiving the Derouet Jameson Award for outstanding performance. This award enabled him to join the Master of Wine Programme in 2024, where he is currently a Stage Two student. He has also gained hands-on experience through harvest and cellar work in Burgundy.
As Fine Wine Manager at JN Wine, Alex works directly with châteaux and négociants and helps deliver one of Ireland’s most comprehensive Bordeaux en primeur campaigns. While the company holds exclusivities for many of Bordeaux’s leading estates, their focus is on presenting the full breadth of the region - its diversity of style, value, and emerging talent. Alongside guiding clients through vintage analysis, market insights, and portfolio building, Alex is particularly committed to championing wines from beyond the Classified Growth hierarchy, especially those crafted in Bordeaux’s traditionally less celebrated appellations.
