Approved Programme Providers or APP are typically colleges, universities, independent training organisations or individuals. They offer one or more of the WSET qualifications and act as an examination centre.
All undergo a rigorous approval process to ensure the WSETs high quality standards are met and they are regularly monitored to assure a consistence experience for candidates around the world.
There are over 440 Approved Programme Providers throughout the world.
What they do
Approved Programme Providers meet various criteria that enable them to offer the specific WSET course they have qualified for, and hold examinations. These criteria include:
| • | having good administrative arrangements | |||
| • | making available competent staff for tuition, invigilation and assessment as appropriate | |||
| • | meeting minimum standards (e.g. teaching rooms) and resources (e.g. learning materials and sample usage) | |||
| • | making financial references available | |||
| • | agreeing to meet the WSET policy requirements (e.g. candidates with special needs) | |||
| • | undertaking to comply with the Code of Practice for the administration of WSET examinations | |||
| • | agreeing to the post-approval monitoring process | |||
The WSET operates a rigorous approval process over applications to run our courses, designed to:
* guarantee that the Programme Provider meets the stringent requirements set by WSET® Awards, the WSET division which administers the scheme, and complies with the requirements laid down by OfQual, our official regulator
* enhance the quality and prestige of WSET qualifications
* safeguard the quality of our qualifications
The approval process has both a generic element and sections specific to each qualification that a provider wishes to offer. It involves:
* initial discussions with the WSET Business Development teams,
* the completion of the General Application form (please read the relevant Guide(s) first) and the relevant qualification application forms, below
* an approval visit by WSET Awards;
* the payment of the relevant fee
Educator Requirements
A key criteria for approval is that the APP must have eligible educators to deliver the courses. The basic requirement is that the educator (s) must hold the WSET qualification above the one that they are applying to teach (or hold a WSET-recognised equivalent qualification) and at least one educator at each APP must have completed the required modules of the Certified WSET Educator training. Details of the Educator programme can be found here. (Please note that one place on the Educator training programme is included in the APP application fee and that when a place is being booked as part of an APP application, potential educators who are only teaching up to Level 2 qualifications do not need to have passed the WSET Diploma).
Once we have reviewed your application form, we will contact you to arrange a booking on a convenient Educator Workshop.
