Marketing

Marketing can be an ideal career for creative people that enjoy building brands and telling stories. You can work for wineries, distilleries, breweries, importers, distributors, retailers, PR agencies, events companies or tourism boards.

Responsibilities

A marketer is responsible for promoting brands, recruiting new customers and helping to boost sales. Core responsibilities include spearheading brand campaigns, producing content and overseeing any advertising. Many marketers work on product development, label design, tastings and events, while also managing influencer, media and PR relationships. They regularly coordinate with sales and buying teams too.

Skills

Key skills include strong communication, creativity, digital proficiency, project management, analytics and product knowledge. Qualifications such as a WSET Level 3 can help you communicate confidently, allowing you to bring wines, spirits, sakes and beers to life for different audiences, while marketing degrees are also valuable.

Career Progression

You might start out as a marketing assistant or executive, before progressing to marketing manager. Top roles include marketing director or chief marketing officer (CMO).
