We are delighted to announce that we are launching a series of spirits webinars – Is more better? Simplifying your back bar post COVID-19 - in association with BCB. Over the next five weeks, WSET’s Rob McCaughey will be talking to some of the industry’s most inspirational spirits experts about managing your back bar in a ‘post-COVID’ 19 hospitality world. Each week the webinar will focus on a different category of spirits, with Rob asking each interviewee - if you could only have five spirits from a category on your back bar what would they be and why?

The interviews will cover questions such as; how do you justify what products you stock?; how do you maximise diversity and variety while minimising your overheads?; and why will understanding how spirits are made and what makes them different become increasingly important? The webinars will last for one hour which includes a live Q&A session at the end.

The series kicks off on Tuesday 26th May with a deep dive into the world of Cognac and Armagnac with US Beverage Director at Hugh Acheson Restaurants, Kellie Thorn. If you are interested in taking part, please register here.

Following on the heels of the inaugural webinar, there is a treat in store for you every week for the next four weeks:

  • June 2 American Whiskey with Nick Korn, Principal, OFFSITE, a boutique experiential marketing and strategy firm focused on changing paradigms in the liquor industry
  • June 9 Rum with Steve Yamada, Certified Spirits Educator, Stalwart of the New Orleans Bartending Community
  • June 16 Aromatized Wines with Jake Parrott, National Sales Manager, Haus Alpenz and Sotolon Selections
  • June 23 Scotch with WSET’s Nick King (whose book, Understanding Spirits: Explaining Style and Quality, has recently been nominated for a Spirited Award)

Links to register for these webinars will be posted to our events page.

WSET is BCB’s education partner for its Brooklyn and Berlin events. The webinar series forms part of BCB’s digital programme to engage with its key audiences. The next BCB event - Bar Convent Berlin - is now scheduled to take place 12-14 October 2020.
