Last month the Wine Communicators of Australia (WCA) announced the winners of their 2022 Wine Communicator Awards. This annual ceremony recognises outstanding contributions to, and excellence in, wine communication in all its forms.

We were thrilled to see WSET educators and Diploma Alumni amongst those celebrated for their contribution to and skills in wine education.

The Best Published Feature Article or Wine Column winner was awarded to Lisa Cardelli DipWSET, a trained WSET educator who achieved her WSET Level 4 Diploma in 2016. Lisa was selected by the judges for her article “Accessing All Areas”, an insightful and engaging review of the challenges still faced by disabled wine professionals seeking opportunities and careers in the wine and hospitality industries.

The Best Wine Educator award recipient was Cynthia Gemus DipWSET of Yalumba Wines, also a WSET-trained educator who achieved her WSET Level 4 Diploma in 2022. Judges were particularly impressed by “Her ability to blend the content with her distinctive personal voice”.

The Best Wine Blog or Podcast went to “Wine with Meg + Mel”, presented by WSET certified educators Meg Brodtmann MW and Mel Gilcrist. The judges were drawn to the "pair’s refreshing take on wine" and were impressed by the balance they created between being informative and entertaining.

Sarah Andrew DipWSET, Business Development Manager - Australia & New Zealand, commented, “It’s so great to see the recognition for women working in wine communication and education in Australia. All of these women are hugely influential in shaping our industry and making it a more inclusive and accessible space.”
